No Australian source we checked publishes a standard price for a pool builder lead. hipages credits cost 75.5 to 89.7 cents each on its $139 to $649 + GST monthly plans, but hipages does not say how many credits a pool lead takes. The number to budget is cost per signed pool: about $3,630 in our mid-band worked example below.
At a glance: what a pool lead costs in Australia, October 2026
Pool lead prices in Australia are published as plan prices and “from” rates, not a pool rate card, so the honest answer is a formula.
- hipages: $139, $249, $449 or $649 + GST a month for 155 to 850 credits, read on 13 October 2026. Credits per lead vary by trade, location, job size, supply and demand. Every lead is capped at 3 businesses.
- What’s The Damage (WTD): pay-per-lead “from $25” across its trades, up to 2 tradies per lead, or an exclusive trade-and-city territory at $250 a month. Pool construction territories are listed for 15 places, including Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane.
- Agency retainers: Local Digital says most pool builders it works with invest $3,000 to $8,000 a month across SEO, Google Ads and Maps, plus ad spend.
- The one published pool funnel we found: a LocaliQ pool builder in QLD and VIC averaging 165 leads and 12+ sales a month. That is at most 13.75 leads per sale: because sales are “12+”, 13.75 is an upper bound, not an exact rate.
- The asset on this page: the Signed-Pool Equation and a worked cost-per-signed-pool table.
How it works
Working out what a signed pool really costs
Total the month’s spend
Add plan fees, credits, management fees and ad spend for one month. Divide by the leads you accepted.
Qualify before driving out
Check block access, pool type, budget and start date by phone. Count what share of leads get a site visit.
Cost each site visit
Multiply design and travel hours by your hourly cost. Add it to every lead at your site-visit rate.
Divide by signed pools
Multiply leads per signed pool by the all-in cost per lead. Compare channels on that number, not the advertised rate.

How much does a pool lead cost on hipages?
A hipages pool lead costs its credits multiplied by 75.5 to 89.7 cents plus GST, on top of a monthly plan you pay whether or not enquiries arrive.
| hipages plan | Price a month (+ GST) | Credits a month | Cost per credit | Postcodes | Plan cost a year (+ GST) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Starter | $139 | 155 | 89.7c | 1 | $1,668 |
| Advanced | $249 | 310 | 80.3c | 3 | $2,988 |
| Premium | $449 | 595 | 75.5c | 5 | $5,388 |
| Platinum | $649 | 850 | 76.4c | 10 | $7,788 |
Plan prices, credits and postcodes are from the hipages membership costs page; the cost-per-credit and annual columns are our division and multiplication. Some older guides still quote 810 credits on Platinum; the page now says 850. hipages’ job leads and credits policy says the credits for a lead depend on trade category, job location, supply and demand and the size of the job. A pool build is one of the largest residential jobs on the platform, so ask your hipages rep for the credit price of a pool construction lead in your postcodes before you choose a plan.

What should I pay per pool lead, all in?
An all-in pool lead cost is total monthly spend, including plan fees, management fees and ad spend, divided by the enquiries you actually accepted that month.
WTD’s exclusive territory shows why the denominator matters: $250 a month is $50 a lead at 5 pool enquiries a month and $125 a lead at 2. A retainer behaves the same way. At an assumed $3,000 monthly fee and 30 leads, the fee alone adds $100 to every lead before a dollar of ad spend. If you compare channels on the advertised rate instead of the all-in rate, the cheapest-looking channel often turns out to be the dearest. Our bathroom renovation lead cost breakdown applies the same all-in method to a trade with published ad-account figures; for pools we found no Australian agency publishing a dollar cost per lead on its own site.
The Signed-Pool Equation: cost per signed pool contract
The Signed-Pool Equation says cost per signed pool equals leads per signed pool multiplied by the lead price plus the site-visit cost carried by each lead.
Cost per signed pool = leads per sale × (cost per lead + site-visit rate × cost of one site visit)
Pools need the second term because a pool cannot be priced over the phone: block access, excavation and design come before a quote. The inputs below are labelled. The 13.75 leads per sale is derived from the only published pool figures we found (LocaliQ: 165 leads, 12+ sales a month); because sales are “12+”, it is an upper bound, and the real case may need fewer leads per sale. The lead prices, the 40% site-visit rate and the $360 visit cost (4 hours of design and travel time at an assumed $90 an hour) are assumptions; replace them with your own.
| Input or result | Low band | Mid band | High band |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost per lead (assumption) | $60 | $120 | $250 |
| Leads per signed pool (LocaliQ case, 165 ÷ 12, upper bound) | 13.75 | 13.75 | 13.75 |
| Lead spend per signed pool | $825 | $1,650 | $3,438 |
| Site visits per signed pool (40% of leads, assumption) | 5.5 | 5.5 | 5.5 |
| Site-visit cost per signed pool ($360 each, assumption) | $1,980 | $1,980 | $1,980 |
| Cost per signed pool | $2,805 | $3,630 | $5,418 |
| Share of a $65,000 fibreglass pool | 4.3% | 5.6% | 8.3% |
The $65,000 is the typical installed fibreglass inground price in What’s The Damage’s October 2026 pool cost guide, which ranges fibreglass at $50,000 to $85,000. Below about $144 a lead, a pool builder’s site visits cost more per signed contract than the leads did, so the cheapest lead is not the cheapest pool.

How much does the close rate change the cost of a signed pool?
The close rate moves cost per signed pool more than the lead price does, because every lost lead also drags a share of a site visit with it.
| Leads per signed pool | Lead spend ($120 each) | Site visits (40%) | Visit cost ($360 each) | Cost per signed pool |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 | $1,200 | 4 | $1,440 | $2,640 |
| 13.75 (LocaliQ case, upper bound) | $1,650 | 5.5 | $1,980 | $3,630 |
| 20 | $2,400 | 8 | $2,880 | $5,280 |
| 30 | $3,600 | 12 | $4,320 | $7,920 |
In this model each lead carries $264 of cost ($120 plus 40% of $360), so a builder who goes from 1 sale in 20 leads to 1 in 10 halves cost per signed pool without changing lead source. A builder who halves lead price from $120 to $60 at 1 in 20 saves only $1,200 per pool. The two levers that move the 1-in-N figure are speed of first contact and qualification before the site visit; our guide to speed to lead for trade businesses covers the first.
When should a pool builder buy more leads, and when should they fix the funnel?
A pool builder should buy more leads only when the leads already bought are converting at or better than about 1 sale in 14; above that, fixing qualification is cheaper.
| If your numbers look like this | Do this first | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 13.75 or fewer leads per signed pool, site-visit rate 40% or less | Buy more leads from the channel with the lowest all-in cost | The funnel is at or better than the upper bound from the one published pool case |
| More than 20 leads per signed pool | Fix first-contact speed and phone qualification before adding spend | At $120 a lead, 20 leads per sale costs $5,280 a pool vs $3,630 at 13.75 |
| Site-visit rate above 50% of leads | Qualify on block access, pool type, budget and start date by phone first | At 50%, visits alone cost $2,475 per signed pool at 13.75 leads per sale |
| 50+ quoted-but-unsigned pools from the last two seasons | Follow up the old quotes before buying new leads | Those families already paid for a site visit with their time; you paid for it with yours |
The thresholds are our decision rule built on the worked example above, not an industry benchmark. On the last row, the database reactivation method is what applies.
What does running pool lead follow-up yourself cost?
Running pool lead follow-up yourself costs the hours to call every enquiry within minutes, qualify it by phone, book and drive to site visits, and chase quotes for months.
At 30 leads a month, a 15-minute qualifying call each is 7.5 hours, and 12 site visits at 4 hours each is 48 hours: about 56 hours a month before any quote follow-up. That fits inside a builder with a sales or design person on staff. It does not fit when the owner is also running the crews in October. Outsourced follow-up is priced in different ways: per lead, per booked appointment, or as a share of revenue. Across the market a booked call costs $30 to $400 depending on industry, offer, price and many other variables, and our pool builder lead generation guide compares the four ways Australian pool builders buy growth, including pay-per-result appointments, where no-shows aren’t charged.
FAQ: pool lead costs in Australia
Pool builders asking what a lead costs in Australia usually ask next about credits, site visits and exclusivity, answered below with October 2026 figures.
How many hipages credits does a pool lead take?
hipages does not publish a credit price for pool leads. Its job leads and credits policy says credits depend on trade category, job location, supply and demand and the size of the job. At plan rates a credit costs 75.5 to 89.7 cents before GST, so multiply the credits quoted for your postcode by that range.
Is a $250 lead too expensive for a $65,000 pool?
Not by itself. In the worked example, a $250 lead at 13.75 leads per signed pool puts cost per signed pool at about $5,418, or 8.3% of a $65,000 fibreglass pool. A $60 lead at 30 leads per sale costs more per signed pool than a $250 lead at 13.75.
Should I count site visits in my pool cost per lead?
Count site visits in cost per signed pool, not cost per lead. In the mid band, 5.5 visits at $360 each add $1,980 to every signed pool, more than the $1,650 spent on leads.
Are exclusive pool leads better than shared ones?
Exclusive leads remove the race to call, but they only cost less per signed pool if your close rate improves enough to cover the higher price. hipages caps each lead at 3 businesses; What’s The Damage sends a pay-per-lead job to up to 2 tradies, and to no other tradie on its exclusive territory.
What is the cheapest source of pool leads?
Your own unsigned quotes are usually the cheapest source, because the site visit and design work are already done. Our ranked list of pool builder lead generation agencies covers buying new demand once that file is worked.
